Donda Review

I’m going to cut to the chase here – this album is meh. I don’t want to label this as either Trash or Fire here – I don’t feel like it deserves either classification. I will admit I like some songs off of this album – but as an overall project this is just forgettable. I’m sure Kanye stans will disagree there – but anyone who is still a Kanye stan at this point needs to rethink things with their life. The dude is the epitome of POS – and its sad to see people still enabling him. Kanye needs help – mental health is not a thing to mess with and he’s been off his rockers for a long time. Too many yes men/women in his life – someone needs to tell him straight to his face that not everyone he says/does is correct or amazing.

Back to the album review. Sonically I actually like this album quite a bit – but the lyricism is trash. Some deep bass lines in this cut along with some edgy melodies make for a pleasant listen – but then you start to actually listen to the lyrics and you question why you are listening to it. Kanye’s ego pours out into the lyrics and that is not a good thing – his verses just leave a lot to be desired. I also wasn’t a fan of a lot of the features on this album – which Kanye relies on in many of his albums to elevate his songs.

All in all this album isn’t going to have me coming back to listen to it. A couple of songs might make my liked songs list in spotify, but I will not be itching to get back to this album to listen from front to back. This album is just too damn long – almost two hours long?! Come on you can’t expect to keep listeners tuned in all the way through. I will say, this was better than I thought it would be going in but it wont make any top album list of mine.

Overall Rating: 5/10 – meh
